How to Print Your Booklet

Does my page count need to be a multiple of 4? No, you don't need to pre-pad your document. Our tool automatically detects if your page count is not a multiple of 4 and adds the necessary blank pages at the end of the document before performing the imposition.

What is 'saddle-stitch' binding? Saddle-stitch is the most common booklet binding style. You place the folded sheets "over the saddle" of a stapler (or a special long-reach saddle-stitch stapler) and drive staples through the folded spine. Magazines, brochures, and small books are almost all saddle-stitched.

My booklet has 40+ pages. Will it still work? Yes, but keep in mind that saddle-stitch is generally only practical for booklets up to about 64 pages (16 sheets of paper). Beyond that, the spine becomes too thick to fold and staple cleanly. For very long documents, consider perfect binding or digital alternatives.

Do I need to do anything special on my printer? Yes. You must enable double-sided (duplex) printing and set the flip direction to "flip on short edge." If you flip on the long edge, the back of each sheet will be printed upside-down relative to the front.

What if I don't have a long-reach stapler? If you're making single-sheet, 4-page booklets (one folded sheet), a regular stapler might reach. For multi-sheet booklets, you'll need a long-reach or saddle-stitch stapler, which can be purchased inexpensively from an office supply store.
